Police, locals foil abduction attempt

Police and local residents of Banasthali, Kathmandu have foiled an attempt of kidnappers to abduct a ten-year-old girl Thursday morning.

The abductors were trying to kidnap Monica Piya, a fourth grader at Sauravi Boarding School, at about 9 am this morning. Locals became suspicious as the girl protested when the kidnappers tried to take her away forcefully.

Police have arrested Bidur Gautam of Kavre and Ravi Shrestha of Nuwakot in connection with the incident. Two others involved in the abduction are absconding.

Agitated locals demanded, they be allowed to take action against the abductors themselves. They staged demonstrations in front of the police office at Balaju asking the police to hand over the arrested to them. They also torched the motorcycle used in the abduction. Police resorted to lathi charge to take the situation in control.
